OPCC Legally Qualified Persons
We are recruiting for Legally Qualified Persons
On behalf of the East Midlands policing region, Gary Godden, Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), is seeking to recruit new Legally Qualified Persons (LQPs) for Police Misconduct Hearings.
Police Misconduct Hearing panels are arranged to hear allegations of serious cases of misconduct by police officers or special constables. The Police (Conduct) (Amendment) Regulations 2024 details the composition of misconduct panels.
LQPs must provide advice to the panel of persons conducting or to the person chairing a misconduct hearing upon request by the chair in respect of any legal or procedural issues relating to misconduct proceedings. The person chairing a misconduct hearing may delegate responsibility for preparing the report to the LQP.
LQPs are paid a sitting allowance and are entitled to claim preparation and report writing fees and travel expenses incurred on LQP business.
LQPs will be invited to sit on panel hearings in the East Midlands area, Nottinghamshire Police, Derbyshire Constabulary, Leicestershire Police, Lincolnshire Police and Northamptonshire Police. LQPs may also be asked to cover national hearings on a ad hoc basis.
Typically, hearings range between 1-5 days, but this will depend on the complexity of the case being heard. In addition to the hearings, there is also a level of preparatory work to be untaken e.g., reading relevant papers, reports, and background information.
Applicants will need to be over 18 years of age at the time of appointment, complete an application form, providing proof of identity and residence and undertake Nottinghamshire Police Vetting if successful in being appointed. Further eligibility requirements are detailed in the application pack. There is also a requirement to attend a mandatory training session.
