I provide specialist teams who work with young people, vulnerable people and their families to offer support to keep young people out of trouble and stop them being exploited. This includes one-to-one interventions and group sessions in schools to educate students on anti-social behaviour, online safety, criminality, exploitation and sexual health.

My specialist staff are also part of two Police specialist teams: the Youth Violence Intervention Unit – helping young people understand the risks of exploitation – and the Missing Persons Unit, where they work with young people at risk of repeatedly going missing.

I run a number of panels that make sure police powers are used appropriately. I also oversee a team of volunteer Independent Custody Visitors, who make unannounced visits to custody centres to speak to detainees in the cells. They observe and report on the welfare of detainees and that conditions are satisfactory.
