A global leader in the women’s beauty and empowerment industry has thrown their weight behind the Northamptonshire Women’s Charter, taking important steps to make this county a safer place to work.
Leaders at Avon Cosmetics met with the Northamptonshire Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner this week to discuss their role as a campaign signatory and how they can support Danielle Stone’s ambition to build a county where women and girls know their safety is a priority.
The 140-year-old beauty giant is based in Northampton and employs hundreds of staff at its headquarters in Nunn Mills Road, with thousands of independent Avon Ambassadors across the world selling beauty, skincare and fragrances.
Now Avon has signed up, the organisation instantly gains access to an exclusive Charter Toolkit which includes practical steps – such as survey support, bespoke training packages and crime prevention tips – to prevent harm and capture the changes women want to see in the workplace.
The Charter’s mission fits together with Avon’s core purpose to create a better world for women and support causes that matter most, such as recognising gender-based violence.
Laura Penny, Global Retail Operations Manager for Avon, said: “Avon is a living community of millions of women taking control of their own future; as a local employer and a global organisation rooted in women’s empowerment, we are proud to be a signatory of the Northampton Women’s Charter.”
When organisations sign up to the Commissioner’s free campaign, they join an exclusive, likeminded community driven to reduce violence against women and girls across Northamptonshire and meet the Government’s commitment to halving violence against women and girls by 2035.
So far, 122 members across Northamptonshire have backed Danielle’s important mandate.
These organisations include a variety of Northamptonshire employers and groups, including sports clubs, parish councils, a railway operator, emergency services, legal firms, schools and Members of Parliament.
In November, the campaign is gearing up to launch its Women’s Charter Champion where one passionate person from each organisation can be nominated to support their colleagues if they are experiencing harm.
They should be the person who is best placed to listen to the concerns of women and girls in their organisation and take action to create respectful and inclusive spaces where they feel safe.
Danielle Stone said: “I’m pleased Avon has made the decision to join my campaign and use their influential voice to support safer spaces in Northamptonshire.
“The global company has a proven track-record for supporting causes that matter most to women and having their support reinforces my wish to promote a culture that provides an environment that is equal and inclusive.
“Women’s safety is everyone’s responsibility across Northamptonshire and I’m proud so many members are continuing to listen and build a county where women and girls know that their safety is our priority.”
