NFRS Decision Record 59 Digital Radios
Decision taken
The PFCC has taken the decision to approve the awarding of a contract to CDW Ltd for the supply of
digital radios for the total contract value of £126,746.04. The solution shall be supplied by Motorola
and comes with a Motorola Mototrbo 5yr Enhanced Warranty. Fire and Rescue services across the UK
are upgrading to new digital technology to improve communications on the incident ground. Digital
radios will provide NFRS with an enhanced communication capability able to link with neighbouring
services allowing the successful sharing of information. Due to the non-compatibility with other FRS’s
and current radios at end of life with no support for parts this replacement programme is critical. The
service have trialled a number of radios and the Motorola radios were deemed to be the most suitable
and appropriate to meet the needs of the service.
