Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner Danielle Stone visited the Kingswood estate in Corby last week where she met with members of the community and local police, to see first hand the crime prevention work carried out in the area.
Kingswood residents have benefitted from a programme of work to prevent crime and tackle household burglaries. The distribution of one hundred crime prevention packs, which include Smart Water kits, allow residents to mark their property with forensic liquid. Smart Water security marking makes it easier for police to identify stolen items and increases the chance of an item being recovered and returned to the owner.
The project was funded as part of the previous governments Safer Streets scheme, carried out by the Office of the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner Danielle Stone.
Danielle and OPFCC crime prevention specialist Paul Golley were joined by local police officer Greg McClean, PCSO Chris Asante-Ampaduh, Kingswood Neighbourhood Centre Manager Lynn Johnston, Northamptonshire Sport Place Lead Sam Johnston, and North Northants council community wardens.
Danielle began her visit with a tour of the Kingswood Neighbourhood Centre, which has been helping to hand out the crime prevention packs.
Danielle praised the centre and what it provides to the community and spoke to some residents, sharing her new plan on a page with them.
The group then walked round the estate, meeting with residents and heard from Sam Johnston, the Northamptonshire Sports Place Lead for the area. Sam runs a project that provides sports equipment and sessions to young people on the estate.
Danielle was thrilled to hear that residents of Kingswood are feeling safer, and that young people have a safe place to go and spend their time.
She said: “I am so pleased to come to Kingswood and hear from the residents that they are seeing positive improvements and are feeling safer where they live.
“Community centres and community run programmes are so important. Everyone needs a safe place to go when they need it. This is particularly important for our young people.
“I want to continue the good work we have began in this area, implementing more prevention, and reaching out to those who may need our help.”
