East Midlands Special Operations Unit: closure of cause of concern
In our 2021–22 inspection of the east midlands regional response to serious and organised crime, we found several concerns in the East Midlands Special Operations Unit that prevented it from being effective and efficient.
The East Midlands Special Operations Unit has taken significant steps in response to the cause of concern we issued. As a result, we have closed this cause of concern.
This letter provides an update on our findings and can be downloaded here
PFCC Response
The Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Northamptonshire has received and read the letter from HMICFRS that removes the cause of concern from HMICFRS, put into place as a result of their 2023 inspection of the East Midlands Specialist Operations Unit. She has caused this letter and the inspection report that led to it to be read.
She accepted and recognised the observations and comments that were made in the initial report and the actions that have been undertaken by EMSOU and the five constituent Forces as a result and since this inspection.
She is pleased that those parties have been able to rectify the issues that led to the inadequate finding and the cause of concern, especially in relation to the ability since this inspection to set a three year budget for the EMSOU function.
