Road Safety Community Fund
The Office of The Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner in partnership with Northants Safer Roads Alliance awards grants of between £500 and £5,000 to support activity that contributes to the Northamptonshire Strategic Road Safety Plan.
- Road Safety Management
- Safer roads and mobility
- Safer Vehicles
- Safer Road users
- Post crash response.
We want to provide safer roads, public footpaths and cycleways within the county, whereby the safety and security or all road users in enhanced.
Local communities are invited to apply for a grant to assist in the resolution of an identified local road safety issue or concern.
Examples of previously successful applications:
- Purchase and installation of Vehicle activated speed signs (VAS), or speed indictor devices (SID)
- The design and installation of road safety posters and signs around schools
- Parking buddies to improve parking around primary schools
- The purchase and installation of road furniture, such as gates and signage, to encourage safer driving practises.
Organisations who have previously been successful with an application for a Road Safety grant are not excluded from re-applying to the fund. However, organisations will not be eligible to apply twice in one financial year and they must be at least 6 months between applications. Subsequent bids will only be funded to up to 50% of their application amount (exceptional circumstance may be considered).
Please note: the fund will not cover the costs of the required section 50 licence, this cost will need to be covered by the applying organisation.
As a part of the Office of The Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner’s commitment to sustainability, from 14th April 2025 any applications received to the OPFCC Community Road Safety Community Fund, relating to Vehicle Activated Speed Signs or any other form of electronic sign will need to be for solar powered devices. Any exception to this will only be considered under the grant scheme, in exceptional circumstances where there is strong evidence that solar powered device in not viable. Evidence of this will have to be provided by the applicant at the point of making the application.
All approved grants are required to provide updates and feedback on their project and you will be asked to provide copies of invoices and receipts to evidence your spend. Any underspend will have to be returned to the OPFCC in a timely manner. You will also be expected to acknowledge the OPFCC in any publicity associated with your successful grant award.
