One of the first Northamptonshire Women’s Charter signatories has adopted the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner’s workplace survey to help managers understand how safe their employees feel at work.

Housing association Greatwell Homes committed to asking their workforce about their perception of safety in the workplace, and on their commute, after signing up to Danielle Stone’s mandate in December to make women and girls feel safer across the county.

Since receiving the results, the organisation is taking further steps to make sure employees feel protected.

Jo Savage, Chief Executive Officer, Greatwell Homes (pictured, left) said: “Greatwell Homes is proud to be one of the first organisations to sign up to the Northamptonshire Women’s Charter and to work alongside the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner’s office to help build a safer county for everyone.

“As part of our commitment, we chose to survey all employees – not just women – because safety affects everyone, particularly colleagues delivering frontline services in our communities. This gave us a much clearer, whole‑organisation picture of where risks exist and where improvements are needed.

“What our colleagues told us has directly shaped our next steps, helping us prioritise consistency, strengthen our zero‑tolerance approach to abuse, and ensure staff feel supported and protected at work. We’re proud to play our part in keeping our workforce safer and contributing to long‑term, positive change across Northamptonshire.”

Danielle Stone said: “I’m pleased to see big organisations such as Greatwell Homes stepping forward and leading by example to build stronger workplace cultures. These actions don’t just benefit employees; they help set the standard for other organisations across Northamptonshire to follow.”

The Northamptonshire Women’s Charter, which now has 82 signatories, is free for all organisations across the county to sign up to.

After joining, businesses gain access to an exclusive Charter Toolkit including practical steps – such as survey support, crime prevention advice, bespoke training packages and policy guidance – to prevent harm and capture the changes women want to see.

The next Women’s Charter webinar, hosted by Northamptonshire Domestic Abuse Service, takes place on May 14. It will help workplaces spot the signs of domestic abuse and how to respond.
