A grant from Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner Danielle Stone has been awarded to fund equipment that will help keep exploring Scouts safe.
The 7th Corby Kingswood Scout Group has received a grant of £1390 through Danielle’s Safe and Sound Communities Fund. The grant will fund 12 walkie talkies and 10 emergency shelters that will be used by young people aged 4-14 who take part in the Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts groups.
The new walkie talkies will ensure that when taking part in expeditions, the Scout leaders can keep the children monitored, and the emergency shelters will help to protect them from the elements.
The equipment will make sure that the Scouts maintain their independence and sense of adventure while still being safe.
The Scout Group provides a positive and safe environment for young people, keeping them engaged, helping to build their confidence and guide them away from anti-social behaviour. The grant will help to maintain the affordability of the group and its activities, reducing the barrier for low-income families to take part.
Mark Phipps, leader of the 7th Corby Kingswood Scout Group said: “We’re extremely grateful to Danielle Stone for supporting our young people through the Safe and Sound Communities Fund. This grant gives us the tools we need to keep our Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts safe while they’re out exploring, learning new skills and building their confidence.
“For many families, affordability can be a real barrier, and this funding helps us keep Scouting accessible so every child has the chance to take part, belong and grow. We’re proud to offer a positive place for young people to spend their time, and this support helps us continue guiding them towards safe, healthy futures.”

Danielle awarded the grant as the project supports her Safe and Sound Plan by supporting communities and keeping young people away from harm.
She said: “The Scouts gives young people a positive place to spend their time and develop skills that will keep them on the right path for the future.
“I am pleased that the funding will help the group to keep providing a fun but safe environment for so many young people.”
Community groups, charities and local organisations can apply for a grant of up to £10,000 through the Safe and Sound Communities Fund.
