More than 30 community-led road safety projects have been delivered across Northamptonshire thanks to funding by Northamptonshire Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner Danielle Stone’s Road Safety Fund.
Between 2025 and 2026, a total of £113,084.50 was awarded to 34 local councils, organisations and community groups, supporting initiatives designed to make Northamptonshire’s roads, footpaths and cycleways safer.
Most funded projects were for practical improvements such as vehicle activated signs, speed indicator devices and traffic calming measures that reduce speeding, improve driver awareness and create safer roads for all users.
Among the year’s recipients were the Northampton Advanced Motorists, who were awarded £2,000 to help fund the IAM RoadSmart Advanced Driving Course. The programme helps drivers aged between 17 and 24 improve their road awareness, hazard planning, and overall confidence behind the wheel.
Northamptonshire Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner Danielle Stone said: “Road safety is one of my key priorities and is consistently raised to me by residents.
“This fund turns neighbourhood concerns into practical measures that encourage drivers to make safer choices and protect lives.
“I am proud to have supported so many initiatives from communities that want to make roads safer for everyone.”
The Road Safety Fund has also supported schemes aimed at protecting children near to schools. Little Harrowden Community Primary School and Walgrave Primary School both received grants for their parking buddies schemes that uses signage designed by children to deter people from parking unsafely outside of school gates.

Danielle said: “Children should be able to walk to schools safely and without fear of being hurt by inconsiderate driving and parking.
“Parking buddies is a simple idea that makes a real difference. By reminding drivers to park safely around our schools, we can help to protect children and ease traffic too.”
Councils, schools and community groups are invited to apply for the next round of funding for initiatives that support the priorities outlined in Danielle’s Safe and Sound plan, with between £500 and £5,000 available.
