Request
I should be grateful if you would provide me with details of Notice of Intended Prosecution letters issued as follows:
I would like details of failing to comply with red lane closure signals at location code 3032B on the M1 between J15a and J15 issued during the period 1 January 2025 until the date prior to this request being accepted.
I would like the details to be provided on a month-by-month basis, please.
Response
I can confirm that the Office of the Northamptonshire Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner does not hold the information requested.
On a smart motorway, National Highways sometimes need to close one or more lanes to traffic. This may be so that an incident can be managed or to create a safer environment for road users and workers. The red X signals above and alongside the motorway tell you when lanes are closed and you need to move to another lane. A red X shows that a lane is closed and it must not be used. It is illegal to drive in a lane marked with a red X. To ensure compliance with the mandatory lane closures, enforcement cameras are placed on a number of overhead gantries.
Northamptonshire Police is the enforcement agency regarding these cameras and their Information Unit may hold some of the information you are seeking.
It is important to understand that The OPFCC and Northamptonshire Police are two separate legal entities. Information regarding operational policing matters is the responsibility of Northamptonshire Police, therefore the OPFCC would not hold any of the information you have requested.
If you have not already done so, then you may wish to write to Northamptonshire Police’s Freedom of Information and Data Protection Team, Information Unit, Force Headquarters, Wootton Hall, Northampton, NN4 0JQ / [email protected]
In addition to this, any queries you may have regarding the operation of these cameras should be directed to National Highways via [email protected]
